The Photographers Gallery in Soho London is such a great spot. I love just popping in here and seeing what amazing art they have displayed, however this particular exhibition I looked out for and visited especially. SAUL LEITER.
I’ve mentioned Artist jealousy before and boy do I get it bad for LEITER’s work. Right at the top of the Photographers Gallery is where you’ll find this exhibition. Right at the top because it is simply heaven. As street photography goes this is the shit. That’s good, don’t worry.
The colour and the perspective that LEITER injects into his work is so interesting and so pleasing to look at. As you walk around the room, kind of tracing the walls from the entrance right back to the exit, you are pulled along at the sight of the next image. Right from the moment I set my eyes on the first photo I was blown away, but then I saw the image to the right and off I went.
This exhibition makes you want to create beautiful art. It makes you want to move to New York City borrow your granddad’s film camera and shoot the gritty streets of downtown NYC. Not that you can these days, will street photography ever be the same again? Will we (film photographers of the 21st century) ever be able to create this kind of raw longing that LEITER captures in our hearts? I’m not so sure, but I’m sure as hell going to try.
Get there before the 3rd of April otherwise you’ll miss it and I can guarantee you will be sorry if you do.

“As the old saying goes “if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” I think these are pretty good words to have in mind sometimes and it is these words I will live by when I talk about exhibitions I have been to. Simply put, I won’t tell you about Exhibitions that weren’t very good. That said, of course this is only my opinion and I’m no expert, but as I am sure you are aware the masses who visit these exhibitions are not all experts.
"So why listen to me? I’d hope its because you like my wit, (we all like to be liked) and that you think what I have to say might interest you. Duh.
"London is great. It is full of creativity happening around every nook and cranny and it’s crying out to be explored. As a photographer myself going to exhibits is not just part of the job, it’s the perfect source for soaking up inspiration. I’ve been to a few and I’ll go to a few more and then I will write about them. Maybe you’ll read them and maybe you’ll visit. Let me know if you do: @carolannerose.”
Have you been to the JOEL MEYOROWITZ exhibition at Beetles and Huxley yet? No, well next week I will be posting my thoughts on it.
If you have thoughts/comments/ideas please tweet me @carolannerose I’d love to know people actually read this.
